Car flies 50 feet in the air on Highway 99 right by Yuba City

The video starts with idle chatter, some acoustic music playing – then it cuts off with a car crashing head left behind a trail of smoke and a scream.

“Oh my god, Mike, can you just back off a little?” a woman can be heard saying in the background. “Out of the way, please.”

The surreal car accident occurred Wednesday on Highway 99 near the town of Yuba; a video recorded and posted the same day compare the accident of the “princes of Hazzard.”

Multiple recordings show the speed car on Highway 99 sometime on Thursday before sustaining air of up to 50 feet and then crashing on the other side of the road.

A spokesman for the California Highway Patrol told Sacramento the KOVR outlet news that the vehicle had just been involved in a hit-and-run, driving backwards on the highway with excessive speed. A spokesman for the CHP did not provide further SFGATE comments.

Brian Conejo, an employee of a nearby farm equipment store with surveillance cameras recorded the crash, said the car’s KOVR was “probably made 80 [to] 100 miles per hour in an area of 25. ”

“There’s a really hard turn left up here [on Highway 99], ”He told the station. “They failed to make that turn, just kept going straight and literally going flying over the entire overpass.”

Surprisingly, the woman driving the vehicle was left unharmed with only minor injuries, the station reports. Also, the incident, Conejo told the station, could have been worse if it was tangled with some power lines.

“Pretty crazy to see someone flying in the air,” he added.

A Yuba City police spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment from SFGATE.
