The makers of Jagame Thandhiram are quite excited as the Tamil film’s release date approaches. The film will debut worldwide on Netflix on June 18. Due to the pandemic, the makers had a low-key music album release feature on Twitter Spaces Monday night. Director Karthik Subbaraj, actor Dhanush, composer Santhosh Narayanan, lyricist Vivek, singer Dhee, rapper Arivu and other musicians from Santhosh’s company were present in the virtual chat room.
The 2-hour discussion attracted more than 17,000 participants. And during the conversation, Karthik Subbaraj revealed that the hit song “Bujji” has been removed from the final version, which will be released on Netflix.
“We couldn’t accommodate the Bujji song, even in the theatrical version, given the length of the film. We kept the rest of the songs from the album in the film. But now the movie is out on Netflix. The songs that we thought would work perfectly in the cinema may not work in the Netflix version, as they are watched without pause/interval. I was concerned that the songs would affect the pace of the narration if the audience watched the film in one sitting. I personally felt it was better to remove a few songs and we made that decision together. So we dropped 3 songs from the album. However, there are more exciting things in the movie than songs. And I’m sure the film will please the audience,” Karthik said.
Karthik Subbaraj said the theatrical release of Jagame Thandhiram, which will feature the songs that failed the Netflix version, will premiere on Vijay TV soon. And he also hoped that as things get better, he’d be happy to host a special theatrical showing of Jagame Thandhiram for friends to enjoy in the way it was originally intended.
The music video of “Bujji” was released last year as part of the promotions. And the spicy tunes and catchy lyrics were an instant hit with the audience. Dhanush’s groovy dance moves were just the icing on the cake.
In addition to Dhanush, Jagame Thandhiram also features Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kalaiyarasan, Joju George and Hollywood actor James Cosmo.
