When the cameras flashed at the 27th amFAR gala tonight at the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France, one star continued to shine, the world’s second best-selling living artist Sacha Jafri. The lavish gala celebrated its 27th edition with host Sharon Stone as Alicia Keys put on a dazzling performance to continue to raise money for AIDS returns.
As one of the festival’s most anticipated nights, the 27th edition was a smaller, more intimate affair than previous years, with the exclusive guest list shrinking from 900 to 400 people with the applicable COVID-19 protocols.
After the performance, Sacha’s live painting and a pre-sale of his open edition NFT followed. When some buyers returned to their penthouse suite, the auction opened the grand finale of the event. Though some had already left, Sacha, along with billionaire philanthropist Javed Fiyaz, co-founder of Infinity8.io, sold a little over 1,500 units in less than a minute for a total of 750,000 euros.
Tech entrepreneur and crypto investor Scott Fletcher not only bought all 1,500 editions, but also won the bid for the artist’s live painting for over 1,000,000 euros. In total, Sacha raised over 1.75 million euros, with 100% of the proceeds from NFT sales and physical printing going to AIDS and Covid-19 research.
Interesting is the NFT sale, which, in partnership with Javed Fiyaz and his charity NFT platform infinity8.io, surpassed an Andy Warhol Mickey Mouse piece that grossed € 375,000 ($ 442,702) a Chopard 18-carat white gold diamond, and a Michael Kagan astronaut that sold for 400,000 euros ($ 472,215.60). Not only did Sacha take home first place for the amount raised, but this open NFT edition was just pre-sale.
What will be one of the biggest NFT launches this year, fans of the artist will have the opportunity to get one from July 22nd to Monday, July 27th. The price starts at 635.30 euros for the first 30 minutes, 1,000 euros per piece after the first hour and is regularly increased until the end of the auction.
Infinity8.io is the very first NFT philanthropic marketplace that bridges the visual arts and digital arts by supporting great masters and showcasing emerging talent.
