Members of Piedmont family tragically die in car crash

Family members from Piedmont, California, tragically died in a car accident about 60 miles southwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul., Minn., Sunday.

The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office confirmed 54-year-old John St. John and 56-year-old Jill St. John of Piedmont, a 13-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy were killed late Sunday night when the two cars collided at County Road 15 and County Road 22.

The sheriff’s office did not release the children’s names, however multiple news sites including local news sites Piedmont Exedra reported that community members said the 13-year-old was St. John’s daughter Claire, and the 9-year-old was a family member.

Exedra said: “15-year-old Ryan, St John’s son, was seriously injured and, along with two other passengers, Jane Wooster Emerson, 41, and another teen.

Deputies responded at 11:30 p.m. at the intersection where a 2012 Ford expedition collided with a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, the sheriff’s official said. Seven people were in the Ford while one person was in the Chevrolet.

The other three people in the Ford, including two children, were also from California and were taken to hospital, according to the sheriff’s official. The Chevrolet driver, a 41-year-old man from Le Sueur, Minn., Was taken to a hospital, too.

KTVU reported the family was on the way to a family cabin.

Sheriff’s officials said alcohol probably didn’t play a role in the crash. The accident is under investigation.

Jill was a marriage and family therapist and a practitioner in Piedmont with her bio online said he worked for six years at the Kaiser Chemical Addiction Program in Oakland. KTVU reported Claire attended Piedmont Middle School.
