Multiple homes burn in fire near West Oakland BART


A three-alarm fire near the West Oakland BART station evaporated three homes Monday morning, officials you say.

The fire broke out before 6 am on Ninth Street and Peralta Street and was still active at 6:30 am, according to the Oakland Fire Department.

The department said, about 50 firefighters are fighting with flames in 1500 blocks of nine streets. No injuries were reported. The number of moves is unknown.

The fire department shared video footage of burning houses with at least one look as if it could be a Victorian.

“At least three buildings have suffered extensive damage in this 3Alarm incident in 9th and Peralta,” the department wrote on Twitter. “This is still an active scene.”

The flames also affected power lines.

KTVU reported that the flame started inside one of the houses and quickly spread to a house next door. Fire said KTVU that they do not believe that anyone was indoors affected.


Residents in the area were evacuated and the area blocked on their vehicles.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
