Multiple people injured by gunfire on I-280 as S.F. area sees slight increase in freeway shootings

Authorities said several people were injured in a shooting on Interstate 280 in the town of Daly early Friday morning.

The California Highway Patrol said it responded to a 911 call at 1:29 am near the southbound line of Highway 1 near Highway 1 and just south of the Eastmoor exit. Officers found a GMC gold utility vehicle that had crashed.

CHP spokesman Mark Andrews said: “Multiple occupants of the vehicle were injured and transported to the hospital.”

“We are investigating a possible highway shooting involved in the same car,” Andrews added. “We don’t know exactly where the shooting took place but we are investigating the vehicle may have been involved in a shooting.

CHP temporarily closed the southbound lines to conduct an investigation. The lines have been reopened since.

No other information about the incident was immediately available.

Andrews couldn’t provide an exact number of shootings held in the Daly City-San Francisco area this year, but he said, “there seems to be a little bit of a slight increase in the San Francisco area, especially on highways recently. ”

Near the incident this morning, a stretch south of 280 in San Francisco closed on August 18. Someone was injured in the shooting. “At this point, there is no indication that the two incidents are connected,” Andrews said.
