Shah Rukh Khan celebrates 19 years of Devdas, recalls how his ‘dhoti kept falling off’

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan ran through memory on Monday as his romantic drama Devdas completed 19 years. Aided by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Devdas, also starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff, released July 12, 2002.

Shah Rukh took to Twitter to share a few photos from the shoot with himself, Bhansali and his co-stars. In his usual brutal, inimitable style, SRK praised the film’s team.

All late nights, early mornings, problems are solved by the beautiful @MadhuriDixit, the beautiful Aishwarya, always cheerful @bindasbhidu, full of life @KirronKherBJP and the whole team is plodding under the masterful Bhansali. Only problem – the dhoti kept falling off! Thx for the love pic.twitter.com/oc9BvF1nNw

“All late nights, early mornings, problems are solved by the beautiful @MadhuriDixit, the beautiful Aishwarya, always [email protected], full of [email protected] and the whole team is plodding under the masterful Bhansali. Only problem – the dhoti kept falling off! Thank you for the love,” Shah Rukh Khan tweeted.

Devdas, an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel of the same name, is still remembered for the moving performances of the three protagonists, the lavish sets of art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai and the soulful music of Ismail Darbar.

Earlier in the day, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Bhansali Productions paid tribute to the ‘original’ Devdas – late actor Dilip Kumar.

“Memories of some great and happy memories of Devdas’ sets. Even 19 years later it all still feels so fresh! Thanks Sanjay for sharing this one. Will cherish these forever! Here’s our tribute to #DilipKumar, like #Devdas, you will live on… forever!” Madhuri wrote alongside a series of photographs, including one by Dilip Kumar of Devdas.

19 years ago, this love saga was etched in our hearts and lingers with its eternal music, sparkling performances. Here’s an ode to #DilipKumar, just like #Devdas, you will live on forever! #19YearsOfDevdas pic.twitter.com/AFrsyOLNe1

Dilip Kumar played the titular role in Bimal Roy’s 1955 film Devdas. The film also starred Vyjayanthimala and Suchitra Sen in the lead roles.
